Warwick Retreat

After a lovely road trip through Boonah with Sandi, we are on retreat again, staying at the wonderful Glenrose Patchwork in Warwick.
Our beautiful morning tea was waiting for us. We are off to a great start.
As Helen couldn't make this trip, Maree made sure she was still "here" in spirit. Boy we had fun with Helen today!!!
I was very productive and got straight into the sewing. Two Farm Girl  Vintage blocks so far .... Egg Basket block
.......and Farm Fresh Flower block.
I also loved drafting this apron from a vintage 1929 pattern. The fabric is gorgeous and it was fun to work out.
De and Maree with their mini quilt swaps they received (a little early due to Maree leaving for overseas next week). De's was made by Maree and Maree's is made by Helen. They are stunning!
A few finishes.... From Lynda...Natalie Bird's little zipper bags.
Marilyn ....crochet hook holder and zipper sew it all bag.
And De's sweet quilt (another Natalie Bird pattern)
Having a wonderful time as always. Love this place, love the company especially.
Night Helen!

Tilda

Ages ago a lovely blogging friend, Jantine, sent me two gorgeous Tilda stitcheries. I have finally started on them.
The first one has been stitched.....
And now painted.
I love the way it's turned out. Now to start on the second one. It has a lot more detail in it but so worth it.

By Hoki Quilts Challenge

The theme for this challenge was "Rain". I decided on a mini quilt inspired by a painting I had seen.
I used appliqué, paint, embroidery and tiny crystal beads to make it.
The street lamp is appliqué and painted. The sky and clouds are also painted.
I've painted highlights on the umbrella and couple as well.
Stitching and beads for the rain.
Puddles on the ground.
This was a lot of fun and really made me think outside the box. The next theme is black and white. I'll have to put my thinking cap back on.....,
Have a great day

A Huge "Thank You"

Well to say I was blown away with all the lovely comments and heartfelt wishes from my last post is an understatement. I honestly can't thank you all enough for taking the time to leave a message and for wishing the kids well.
"Thank you" just doesn't seem enough.
I have messaged everyone directly, but I unfortunately couldn't return any messages to Trudy and Louise Jane as you come up as "no reply". I hope you both see this message and know just how grateful I am to you both as well.
THANK YOU SO MUCH.

A Serious Post

Anyone who knows me, even a little bit, knows how important my family is to me. I've struggled with my blog the last two years and I've even contemplated going private. This blog is becoming more and more a journal and diary and I worry that it's not always about sewing and crafting. I worry about what YOU think. Which means I've forgotten why I blog in the first place. It's for ME. I blog for ME. So if you don't mind reading about all the other family and friend stuff along the way with a bit of sewing and crafting thrown in.......that's great! I'm really glad you're here!!!!

My youngest son was in a car accident on Friday night. I got the call at work and then even spoke to him, in the ambulance on the way to hospital. It was pretty bad. His friend, who was driving, has only had her license for 6 months and I guess inexperience was a major factor. They hit a pole and they hit it hard enough to write her brand new car off. A brand new car though, means that they both had airbags deployed. If they'd been in any of our cars this wouldn't have happened. Old cars is all we drive. Jack is ok and so is his friend. They were EXTREMELY lucky. They were both kept in hospital overnight. Jack has hit his head and has seatbelt bruising on his lower stomach. His bruises are colourful today! Right across his stomach and both hips as well as a shiner on his face. His friend is temporarily in a wheelchair with tissue damage to her legs.
It could have been so much worse.

I'm glad I write about the days I spend with my boys. The days we laugh together and get to experience lots of wonderful things. I'm so glad I tell them everyday how much I love them. I'm glad I get to hug them often. I'm glad I don't take these days and moments for granted.
Going to hug them both a bit tighter from now on.

Sunrises

Today was unexpected to say the least.
James and I had an extremely early start to the Gold Coast airport. He was on his way back to Queenstown, NZ, for four days with a mate. They were very excited after hearing the snowfall overnight had been huge. Unfortunately there had been so much snow, they closed the airport. So 10 minutes before they were due to fly out - the flight was cancelled.
Luckily I had gone across the road to Kirra Beach to take a few photos of the sun and the beach.
So I was still close by to pick him back up and bring him home. On the upside (well for me anyhow!) I got to spend another whole day and night with him.
To console himself he then spent the weekend in Byron Bay!!! Sounds ok to me!

Wednesday Stitching

Today I got to spend a lovely rainy day with a few friends. It was the perfect day for stitching and laughing and chatting.
We had a few colourful visitors who weren't at all concerned we were just a few feet away.
Lunch was delicious and there was cake and cookies too - and lots of cups of tea. It was cold and rainy....just perfect! The fireplace was roaring.
I finished my Farm Girl Vintage potholder for a swap I'm in.
And finished another row on my Trip Around the World.
Such a lovely day.
Now I'm enjoying having both my boys home for pizza and State of Origin. Lots of screams and jumping up from the lounge too. Love days like this.

Tuesday Fun

Today our usual Tuesday stitching group didn't get together due to health issues and appointments. But as it is my day off, it was still a wonderful day.
First I got to spend most of the day with my youngest son and we really enjoyed ourselves. We saw Jurassic World in 3D at the movies. It was fantastic. It is incredible how good the CGI and special effects are. So believable!
We also tried a new place for lunch and did a bit of shopping for some cooking and baking.
I made chorizo and red pepper quiches. One my husband got stuck into tonight and the other for a stitching day with another group of lovely friends tomorrow.
I also made caramel cookies and they are simply delicious!!!
I've hidden a plate for tomorrow as I don't think these are going to last long at all.
I even managed a bit of sewing.
This is week 7 of the Farm Girl Vintage Sew Along and my finished Crops Block. This is going to be made into a potholder for one of the FGV swaps I'm in.
All in all - a super day.
Hope you're having a lovely week!

Button Swap Part Two

My partner in the button swap challenge was Peg and this is what I made for her.....
It was a lot of fun finding things to make with buttons and I did get a lot of inspiration from Pinterest!
I made Peg a little mini quilt... The Button Collector.
The jar has plastic sewn in and the buttons are loose inside the :"jar:". It took me a little while to work out how to do this and put it all together. But it worked!
I didn't make the button necklace, but when I saw it on Etsy, I couldn't resist. This did, however, lead to the many button bracelets I've been making lately!
I also enjoyed making a couple of cards with lots of buttons too.
This first card was fun and I made some cardboard :"buttons" very vintagey with old book pages and ink. It has an old vintage thimble charm too.
Keeping with the "button" theme, the back is a replica of an old button card.

The button cupcake card went with the second parcel I sent to Peg, as I forgot to send her chocolates in the first parcel!!! I think I subconsciously wanted to eat the chocolates myself! But they did go on their merry way to Peg (the next day!!!)
This really was a fun swap!
