New Needlecase and One More Sleep!

I needed a little needlecase. One that was tiny enough to put in my small hexie tin and small enough to fit in my handbag for those unexpected times you find yourself with a few minutes to spare, while you're waiting around. But....it still had to be able to hold a pair of scissors, a pack of needles and some thread.
This is it. I had a lovely vintage photo that I transferred onto fabric and used for the front cover.
It has 2 pockets inside - just big enough.
Very happy and now I had better get a move on as I am off on a cruise tomorrow.
Still surprises me to say it out loud!!! I am going with 11 other girls (including my 2 sister-in-laws) for four days and I can't wait. I hope the weather is as beautiful as it was here today.
So I am not sure if I will have any service on my phone to blog - but I will take LOTS of photos! Just for a change ha ha!!!!
Here's to a lovely weekend for all - I hope to do as little as possible - what am I saying????? I will be doing everything I can on this cruise and making the most of every second!!!
See you soon....
Have a great weekend!

Foodfest at Our Place!

I've been lucky enough to have had a full house these past 2 days. My eldest son and his girlfriend (who is flying back to the UK this Friday after 3 months here in Australia) decided to cook up a feast for all of us last night.
They are wonderful cooks and the food was amazing.
We had kangaroo, kale, apple, beetroot and cashew salad. It was delicious!
We also had the best vegetable lasagne I've ever had. It was so good and I've just polished off the last piece of it for dinner tonight.
Homemade garlic bread topped it off and it was really lovely for the six of us to all be together enjoying a wonderful dinner.
The only thing I had to do was dessert and with strawberries being so delicious at the moment it was an easy decision.
Strawberries and raspberry mousse!
I just love having everyone home and as it doesn't happen as often these days, I treasure every moment.
There was  lots of laughter, playing cards, remote control helicopter flying, playing "worms" on the play station and music on the guitars. Loved every second.
On another food note this book arrived in the mail today. Can't wait to try the recipes in this. It's full of wonderful recipes and photos.
Just a couple more photos of my treasures as I'm feeling very grateful for my family every day.
Hope you've had a lovely day today!

Stitching Girls Day Out

Our Tuesday Stitching group did a little something different today. We had high tea at a lovely little Tea House called Devon Pixies.  It was a wonderful day out together.
Delicious home made scones, sandwiches and cakes. Just look at our sweet little cupcake!
The place is all decked out with lots of pretty things, including a collection of  teapots and tea cups - very shabby chic and gorgeous.
Nice to play ladies today and enjoy a wonderful array of food and great company. Just what we all needed!!
I think this could (and should) become a regular outing for us!
We missed having one of our friends here today - so we definitely will have to do this again with all of us!
Hope you're having a lovely Tuesday too!

August Stitch A Long Project

I really enjoyed making this months project. Such a great little sewing case with lots of room inside for all your sewing bits and pieces.
Another great pattern from Anni Downs book "Some Kind of Wonderful".
A few little stitcheries .....
Put together with some teeny tiny  squares......
Add a zip and some handles (actually it wasn't quite as easy as that!)
But it was fun to make and I'm very happy with the way it turned out.
Thanks Chooky - another wonderful project!
Hope you're having a great week!

Ruth Stoneley Exhibition

Last week I was lucky enough to go the Quilt Exhibition in the Queensland Art Gallery (again!) for the third time and I don't think I will ever tire of it! It's amazing how you still manage to see something new each time. Making it even more interesting was going on a guided tour this time. Still learning so much about these beautiful quilts. We also managed to see the Ruth Stoneley exhibit that is showing at the Art Gallery.

Such beautiful quilts and so detailed and intricate. She really was an exceptional artist.
You were able to take photos in this exhibit, so I was very happy snapping away!!!

Just a couple of little purchases this time... A book on Ruth Stoneley's quilts at the Art Gallery and a couple of postcards depicting the 1700's quilts.
Before we left we went in to see this painting.... It's called "Monday Morning"and is by Vida Lahey. I have always loved this painting and my uncle (who I visit the Art Gallery with often) actually has a print of this in his house. We went to look at it specifically as one my friends is the great niece of Vida Lahey..I couldn't believe the coincidence when she took us straight up to this very painting. I just love it. That's Adrienne (the great niece) trying to escape in the photo!
Hope you all had a lovely weekend...
And hope you have a great week!

Week 4 of the 52 Week Scrap Challenge

This weeks project in Samelia's Mums 52 Week Scrap Challenge is "Stitch a Dresden".
I've made this weeks Dresden plate block challenge into a mini quilt to hang on the wall - Although it looks really good on the table with a vintage fruit bowl on it too!
I love the pattern and putting it together was a lot of fun.
I've used leftover scraps from a "Lilly & Wills" charm pack. I've also used some lace scraps (if you look closely you'll see there are 2 different types) and a doily for the centre piece - all bits and pieces from other projects. Some machine quilting, hand quilting and needle turn to finish it off.
I really enjoyed making this! Thanks Anorina!
Can't wait to see next weeks challenge!

Birthday Swap Present

In my on line group, Friends in Stitching, it was my turn to make the birthday present for another member, Chookyblue. The birthday presents this year had to contain one of three different Friendship sayings and a button. This is what I made for Chookyblue.
"Friends make each day a new beginning filled with wonder and joy" is the saying I chose. I embroidered it onto one of Natalie Birds little wallhanging patterns. The house is appliqued and I have put a shell heart button inside a stitched heart.
I found the little quilt hanger at our Warwick retreat and it was perfect for this mini quilt.
I also made this wooden chooky for Chookyblue! I used to make and paint these pieces a few years back and remembered I had one left. Perfect for someone known as  "Chooky" don't you think? It was a lot of fun to get my paints out again and I really enjoyed painting and distressing this guy. I'd forgotten how much I love to paint!!!

I also sent this gorgeous handmade soap from  Soap Avenue. I love their soaps and they are always coming up with great ideas... when I saw the vintage sewing machne I knew it would make a nice gift for my sewing friends. The card is also handmade ..... something else I haven't made for a long time!!!!
I really hope she liked her presents. I know she's received them so I can finally reveal what I've been making to you.
Have a great day!

What Makes Me Happy?

Definitely making me happy today is finding my owl coffee mug. I bought this when Dreamworld opened on the Gold Coast in 1981. So that makes this little owl 30 years old. I haven't been able to find it for years and thought I had probably given it away (I do that a lot!)
Doing the happy dance now I've found it!

Hope you are having a wonderful day too! The weather here has been glorious!

Another Year... Another Ekka...

I can't believe it is Ekka time again (Brisbane's Royal Queensland Show). That means strawberry sundaes, sideshow alley, rides, show bags, animals and more animals, food and wine, quilts, arts and crafts, produce, the Ekka Adventure Trail and fireworks!!!! So we did all that......and more....
I can't believe James and Liv went on this! I can handle the ferris wheel, but that's about it!
The quilts were wonderful, as always.... I always look forward to seeing the quilts....
But this was my favourite. Tiny, little half inch squares to make Audrey Hepburn. The detail was incredible and there were even little diamontes and pearls in her tiara, earrings and necklace. It was beautiful.

I always love checking out the cakes... so many talented people out there and the cakes certainly didn't disappoint! I also really enjoy the paintings, photography and art displays, but no photos are allowed!

Love, love, love the animal nursery!
We had to try these.... This is the first time I have ever seen Funnel Cakes, and the way they are made is amazing to watch. I needed help to eat this as it was huge. We tried the Caramel Carousel Funnel Cake and it was delicious!!
I love the colours of the show! Everywhere you look there is colour and fun and music and laughing... makes you feel like a kid again.
The fireworks this year were fantastic... the best we've ever seen. It wasn't just fireworks, but a laser show,
guys on motorbikes towing kites with flames and fireworks around the arena, the rocketman (who was much cooler than I thought he would be!!), a water show and all put to great music. We were all very impressed with the fireworks and nightime ring events this year.
As we were walking out of the show, at the end of the night, I took this photo of my gorgeous family. They were the reason I had such a wonderful day. We didn't spend all day together and both couples went off and did their own thing (like when I wanted to see the quilts ha ha!!) , but we kept catching up throughout the day and even ran into each other at one stage (couldn't believe it as there were so many people at the show!). It was sheer chance that we all managed to have the same day free to go.... and it was a wonderful, fun day. Absolutely magic.
I was so tired at the end of the night....It's a huge day and totally exhausting... but so worth it!!!
Hope you're having a lovely week!

This Weeks Fave Photos

Some of my favourite photos this week. I am seeing lots of colour in my pics lately.
These are 2 gorgeous skeins of yarn that I hope to turn into 2 easy scarves (that's the plan anyhow!!). I bought these from Jodie at Jellywares - she has so many gorgeous yarns it was difficult to choose.
Couldn't resist these little purchases from a wonderful, crazy shop my son loves. Macaron shaped case containing lip balm (well of course I couldn't resist that!!), the sweetest little pair of scissors and an Angry Birds pen... I know.... very random!!!
Love, love, love these soup cans. They are limited edition soup cans celebrating Andy Warhol's 1962 artwork "32 Campbell's Soup Cans".
One of my daily photo challenges this week was "a sign". This is a Welcome sign I made a few years back. It's huge as you can see it takes up the whole seat. It's made of fabric with applique and a bit of patchwork and I also painted the frame.
I'm back having my smoothies for breakfast as I really missed having them. This week the strawberries were just too delicious to resist.
Another photo challenge was "something starting with N"... so Needles it was.
Some fabric that just jumped into my bag... I don't know why he he....
And my two gorgeous boys. I love these two and it's sooooo nice to have them around and spending so much time together. This photo challenge prompt was "friendship".

Hope you're having an AMAZING week...
