A Finish and an Update

My online group are putting together some sewing kits for the Tassie Fire victims. Along with the usual sewing stuff like scissors, needles, fat quarters etc... I have made a thread catcher, pincushion and a bag to put it all into.
I bought these fabrics when I was in Melbourne for just this reason and I'm really happy with the way they all turned out.
Now I've just got to get to a post office to send them!

Just a quick update on the floods around us. I took this photo yesterday when my son and I went to see if we could get into work. The roads have all been flooded and are taking their time to go down.
These two photos were taken the day before on local roads. It was hard to believe what we were seeing, especially when the sun was shining the skies were blue....
We have been told the roads into town are now open and we are both going to work today... And it's started to rain again!!! I'm really hoping we're able to get back home when we finish at midnight tonight!
It's been hard to get a lot of normal everyday supplies like bread and milk. We're lucky we don't need fresh water as we've managed to have power the whole time. We're on tank water and if we don't have power, we have no way of getting water into the house.
We have been so lucky... a bit of inconvenience with the flooded roads is our only problem. There have been so many people without power and even worse for all those people who's houses have gone under and they have lost everything... I cannot imagine how heart breaking that would be. My thoughts go out to those who are doing it so tough.
Fires, tornadoes, floods... what a month and what a fury Mother Nature has unleashed!
I am off to have my second lot of eye surgery tomorrow...Definitely not looking forward to that... but I was trying to get clothes, washed and dry before then.. Not going to happen today!!!
I'll leave you with an aerial view of our town (courtesy of Rebel FM)....This is Mt Lindesay Highway.... and "Lake Jimboomba"!!! It is really hard to believe the volume of water we've seen.
Stay safe everyone!

Enough Rain!

The rain has not stopped. The wind was incredible last night and we have had one tree come down - luckily not close to the house. We were in the car attempting to get to my in-laws house this morning. Most of the roads around here have been flooded. My work has closed and there is the worst flooding on Tamborine Mt that I've ever seen. A person has been swept away on the very road we drove home on last night. So tragic. My youngest son is still stuck in northern NSW and unable to get home.
We were going to attempt to take my sister in law home to Miles this morning - about an 8 hour round trip. But all roads are closed. I am quite relieved we aren't making the drive!!
These photos are of one of the roads we attempted to get through this morning and the Albert River.
Stay safe everyone!

Crazy Weather & a Bon Voyage

The weather here has been a bit wet to say the least. Our front yard now has a pool, creek & waterfall feature!!!
We had a drive into the city and back today and it was pretty scary. Unfortunately there is worse to come. I hate driving in this weather but I wasn't going to miss seeing my gorgeous niece today. She is off to the UK for a year and I am going to miss her so much. Yep - another adventurer in our family!
Bon Voyage Sammy - I hope you have a wonderful, amazing time. XX

Happy Australia Day!!!!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful day.
It is raining very heavily here - but that means well needed water is filling up our tank - so we are very happy about that.
Have a super day, whatever you do!

A couple of little thread baskets

I've just finished a couple of little thread catchers from Natalie Birds book "Red Home". Lovely and quick to make and they don't use a lot of fabric... so they're perfect for little left over pieces you can't bear to throw away. The basket at the back is a little taller as I couldn't cut the top off the Eiffel Tower ha ha!!! (Thanks for the gorgeous fabric Tatyana!!)
So, I've been very good this month in the Stitch-A-Long completing 2 thread catchers and 2 shoe bags! Very happy!
Hope you're having a great Friday!

Happy Birthday James!
Another birthday spent in a different country - but he will be home soon! Woo Hoo!

L'ucellos, a Catch Up & More

I am certainly cramming as much into this trip to Melbourne as I can. I'll need a holiday when I get home to recover!!! Ha ha!!
Yesterday was so much fun as I caught the tram into the city to catch up with Marina, my lovely blogging friend that I met for the first time 2 years ago on my last trip here to Melbourne. It was so good to see her again. We met under the clock at Flinders Street station (where everyone meets) and then we hit L'ucellos. This is such a wonderful shop and I wouldn't miss out on going again. I could stay in this shop for hours & hours.
After I finally tore myself away we had some lunch at the old Post Office cafe and walked around the city. This is such a gorgeous city with so many wonderful things to see and do and take photos of!!!
Thanks for a wonderful day Marina and thank you soooooo much for the lovely gift. I have been so spoilt this trip and I have my friends to thank for this as well as my brother and sister in law. They always make sure my trips here are very special. I love them so much for all they do.
Last night of the tennis and guess what? I got to see Federer again - I am definitely making up for the last 3 years. Another terrific match and luckily an earlier night than the night before!
Huge day!
Have a great week!

Sunday in Melbourne

Today we did a bit of a road trip, out to Ballarat then on to Woodend and back to Melbourne - with specific stops and people to meet along the way.
For breakfast I (finally) got to meet my blogging friend Jan (Little Red Hen blog). It's only taken a couple of years! We met in the gorgeous little cafe L'espresso in Ballarat and had a delicious breakfast. We've been friends for years and it was so good to finally meet. Thank you Jan for the gorgeous gift and I really enjoyed catching up with you this morning.
We continued our long Sunday drive and ended up at a terrific pub in Woodend - The Holgate Brewhouse. Not only did we have a superb lunch and get to try a paddle of Holgates finest beers but I got to meet the chef!!! That's very special as he just happens to be the son of my lovely friend Mary in my Tuesday Stitching Group back home. So this photo is specially for you Mary.
Back to my brothers for a few supplies now we are off again to the tennis. Looking forward to seeing Djokovic tonight!!
Hope you've had a great weekend!
Teresa x

Edit: It is 2 am and the match went for 5 hours 2 minutes. Best match I've ever seen! The last photo is of the very end of the match when Djokovic won the match. The whole stadium is on their feet and you can see that even at 2 am and after 5 hours hardly anyone has left. The atmosphere was electric and it was easily the best match I have ever seen.

Saturday in Melbourne

Another wonderful day in Melbourne. First up we went to some local markets with lots of fresh produce. Still going strong with my green smoothie challenge, only today I made for three!
Into the city to try the macarons from La Belle Miette. I chose their two best sellers, raspberry and salted caramel. Absolutely delicious! Laksa for lunch and then off to the tennis again. Another top match to watch with Federer playing Tomic.
Having a great time and making the most of every second.
Hope you're having a super weekend.

Australian Open, Melbourne

Well I'm here in Melbourne and having a ball. It's so lovely to spend a week with my brother in this gorgeous place and to top it off - there's the tennis!!!
This year I was determined to see Federer play as I've been coming to this event since 2010 and missed out on seeing him every time. It's been absolutely freaky just how I've missed out each time. Don't get me wrong I thoroughly enjoy watching all the players- I've just always wanted to see him live. So even though we have tickets for Friday to Monday, when I found out he was playing last night, we got tickets to go - just in case! So glad we did. I had a ball and thoroughly enjoyed watching him play. We managed to watch the whole first set from the front row - that's a long , very funny story. It was the best night!
We have heaps planned and I can't wait......
Hope you all have a great Friday and an even better weekend.
Teresa.

Tuesday Stitching

One more quick get together with the girls in my Tuesday Stitching Group today, before I head off tomorrow. It was lovely - everyone was there today. We're all stitching away diligently - it's not always like that ha ha!!
Just had to show you my gorgeous luggage tag. My destination isn't Paris but I'm loving the tag just the same!
Okay I seriously need to pack and get ready....... Plane leaves very early in the morning.
Have a great week!

January Finish

Well I'm off to a good start this month.... so far!!! A couple of shoe bags for my trip to Melbourne this week.I just love Anni Downs quirky pictures and I really enjoyed the wonky shoe applique. I've made the blue one for my sister in law (who I'm visiting and who travels quite a bit) and the pale green one for myself. I've used Anni's gorgeous fabric as well. Love the little pictures on the fabric.
It's still hot here and I can tell you it was hard work sitting and stitching and sweating to make these bags and it took a lot longer than normal. The heat really zaps my energy levels.. if it had been cooler I think I could have made 10 of these bags in the time it took me to make 2!!!
Well I'm a happy chappy today... the tennis has started.. tonight is my last night at work for a week... and I'm off to Melbourne to see my brother!!! Always hard leaving the boys behind though, even if it's only for 6 days!!!
Hope you're having a Happy Monday!!!

Saturday Arvo

It's 40 degrees in the house today - so I've escaped to Jacks room (the only room with air con!) to do a bit of stitching before I go to work later. The heat is awful - I hope it's not bad where you are and you're managing to keep cool!!

So far this year.....

How are you all going this year??? Did you make any New Years resolutions? The only one (besides get healthier - which I say every year!!!) I made this year was to try and give only handmade presents for the whole year. Even if they're not made by me, I'd like to try and give a handmade gift. The above is my first purchase! I've already bought a few things from Hearts & Roses Jewellery and I had a few of these little bag charms made for gifts. They're very Australian with their little kangaroo, koala and Oz charms plus I wanted a couple of good luck charms thrown in as well. I've sent one to my Mum (who's traveling around Australia) and one is for my niece who heads off to the UK in a couple of weeks for a year. I love them... thanks Louise you did a wonderful job. I wish I'd taken a photo of the others before I sent them off!!!
Now on to the "get healthier" resolution. I am doing the 30 day green smoothie challenge which I did a couple of years ago. I don't know why I don't just do it every day as these drinks are delicious.... and so quick and easy. This year is even better though, as there are lots of new recipes and ideas to try. The purple one is the result of a handful of blueberries! My favourite so far is the pear, banana, spinach and almond milk. But I love the mango, banana, pineapple and spinach one too... I'm going to try a new recipe each day! Luckily you can't taste the spinach!!! So far I've gone 8 days....and loving it!!!
I went and saw Les Mis the other night and I loved it!! In fact I loved it so much I want to go again. Some movies really should be seen on the big screen, and this is one of them. Ann Hathaway and Hugh Jackman were superb. Wonderful!
And of course, being Tuesday.... I got together with girls today for our first stitch, chat, laugh, eat, catch up!!! I wasn't able to stay all day, but I had a lot of fun seeing them and even got to do a bit of stitching. I'm so close to finishing this now... Just a bit on the top left and a couple of hearts in the center....
Helen had these cuties to eat... some left over Christmas treats.. They were very delicious little reindeers!
I am heading off to the movies again tonight.. to see "The Hobbit"... I love going to the movies!
Hope you're all having a wonderful start to the New Year.

New Projects & a gift from Japan

I received some lovely new projects in the mail. All nice and easy and quick - all I can manage at the moment!!! 2 cute Rosalie Quinlan stitcheries - already preprinted (love that) and a cute little owl from Ric raC. Which one do I start?
I also got a wonderful email from James yesterday. He's still in England, but he wanted to show me the present he got me when he was in Japan. He couldn't wait to bring it home (in 4 weeks!!!). There was 13 photos in the email - from a photo of the present, beautifully wrapped to opening it and then a whole set of photos modeling it. It was so funny and beautiful I laughed and cried at the same time. It is the most beautiful kimono and I can't wait to see it and see James in the flesh. Not long to go now.
What new projects are you starting? I'm starting small, hoping I can manage that as things are so hectic here (what's new??)
Have a great day and a great weekend!
