Tuesday Treasures

I have been wanting to share this treasure of ours for quite some time... but it has been packed away. Finally I have had the chance to have a big clean up and it was so nice to bring it back out into the open.
This is the cradle both our boys slept in when they were new born babies.
My husband and I bought it from a swap meet (like a market, but mainly cars, car parts, tools etc...!!). We bought it just after we moved into our house and before we were even thinking of having kids. I remember very clearly walking out of the market carrying it between us by the handles at each end of the cradle. Both boys slept in the cradle straight after they were brought home from hospital. It was perfect. Being so lovely and small, I could move it from room to room. At night I would put it beside the bed and if they woke up in the middle of the night, I was able to lean over and gently rock them in it, back to sleep.
My brother in law (who worked in a bedding factory at the time) made a mattress for it. My mother in law made a beautiful little quilt and pillow. She crocheted all the lace doilies and lace on top and there is cream satin underneath. The detail is just beautiful.
She also made the little wool blanket you see in this picture. Remember the nursery rhyme "Baa Baa Black Sheep"....
The embroidery detail and applique is so cute.
I can't believe the quilt, pillow and blanket are 20 years old....
And the cradle is at least 25 years old!! I would love to know who had the cradle before us and how old it really is.
I am off to see who else is sharing their treasures today at Melodys.
Now to put the cradle back... these days it's job is to hold a few of the bears I've made over the years....
Hope you're having a great day!

That is a gorgeous cradle Teresa, it looks lovely with all the bears in it. The lovely crocheted cover and the blanket real treasures.
I had one that is over 50 years old and it now resides with a grandson whose daughter and mother both slept in it.

Aren't these treasures precious.

Yes, to have it used again will be wonderful - but knowing the ages of your boys I hope it is quite a few years! As usual a lovely post.

Anothe amazing treasure Teresa, isn't it lovely to have these memories and to look back at them with such love. The bassinette and cot (which was at least 30 years old when I bought it) I used for my three babies are still doing the rounds Zoe is in the cot at present. I think the things made many many years ago were certainly made to last forever.
Thanks for sharing.
