30 Day Challenge

Summer is on the way, so what better time to push myself into getting a little healthier (and maybe losing a bit of weight in the process?) Lucky for me my very health conscious, fitness fanatic son, Jack, wants to do the challenge as well - so I am sure he will keep me on track.

Basically the 30 day challenge is to have a green smoothie (recipe to follow) every morning for 30 days. We have started a bit late, but will still do the 30 days (who knows we may keep going longer....) This is our recipe for the drink:
bannana
apple
pineapple
strawberries
orange
heaps of baby spinach
water to blend
Mix it all together in a blender and drink up. We actually really enjoyed it (thank goodness) and it was quick to make. So now I am really happy and think this challenge won't be so bad after all. Wish me luck and feel free to join in - hope everyone has a great weekend. It is so hot here today, very hazy and humid....what is summer going to be like???

Playing catch up.....

I have just finished my 5th baby quilt (this year) for a friend at work. Sarah challenged me to make this stacked coin quilt before the end of August, and this is my second quilt...just got there before the end of the month. I love the colours in this one, the other one (for my nephews new baby boy) was in blues and reds, this is much softer and prettier...
Tomorrow I am starting on my 6th baby quilt, my sister-in-law has her baby tomorrow (I know I am starting a little late!!!) and it is another girl... I have bought some gorgeous baby flanel fabric from Tereasa's Homespun and Beautiful and I can't wait to make it up.

I have also had this "Dear Jane" book for quite some time now and I love the quilt so much. I have wanted to make a start on these little 4" blocks for ages and finally made a start...
These are my first 2 blocks, only 223 blocks to go.....
It has been so hot here...yesterday it got to 33 degrees in the house (not much fun when you are buried under metres of quilt!) and it was still 26 degrees at 9.30 last night.. What happened to winter??? What winter???? Is it finished already????

Charm from America

I found this wonderful site called Found and Made in America. Heather sources old vintage pieces, old games, books, ephemera - just about anything - and turns them into very original beautiful pieces of jewellery (and a few other things too). I saw this gorgeous charm, made from an old wooden scrabble piece with a snippet of old dictionary paper (with the word 'family' on it), then resin coated. It arrived yesterday, beautifully packaged in a little box. I just love it...it is so different and perfectly made. Thanks Heather!

A day at the Ekka

Yesterday was a holiday for the Brisbane Show (Ekka) so Jack and I headed off as per tradition and had a fantastic day. The quilts were gorgeous. We had more food to eat than I care to think about....the fireworks were wonderful (the best part of the day!)
This is Jack and I with 'the duck' he bought for his girlfriend!!!!

I love going to the show. We had so many bags and 'the duck'...we had a bit of trouble fitting into the car. Lucky for us hubby was good enough to drop us off and pick us up from the show, so we didn't have to worry about transport....all it cost was a strawberry ice-cream!. Back to reality now, hope everyone had a great weekend...xx

New Bag!

This is a Rosalie Quinlan bag I made a while back called 'Beauty of a Flower' and even though I love it to bits (with all the embroidery and pockets) I especially love the bag itself. It's a great size and shape and very easy to carry....so I had to make another one!!
This one is simpler with the pockets inside...and in Amy Butlers gorgeous fabrics. You can NEVER have too many bags!!

This is a photo of my eldest son (who I haven't seen much of lately) doing what he does best...cooking!!! He surprised me by making dinner the other night and also made my favourite pasta dish. It has bacon, spinach, pine nuts, and semi dried tomatoes in a tomato/creamy sauce with a touch of chilli. Yummo... It was delicious!!

Hope everyone has a great weekend! We have a long weekend due to the Ekka (Brisbane Show) so I am really looking forward to having Monday off and going to the show with the boys. Strawberry ice creams, steak sandwiches, show bags, goofy hats, ferris wheel ride...can't wait. Thanks for stopping by...
